AutoTuner BMW DME8: Improved OBD Unlock Patch

Protocol update: 2 September 2026

AutoTuner has released an improved OBD unlock patch for supported BMW DME8 engine control units using the Bosch MG1 platform and TC298 processor.

The update covers the following ECU variants:

Bosch MG1CS024
Bosch MG1CS049
Bosch MG1CS201

What has changed?

With the previous unlock patch, an OBD write performed after unlocking could trigger FSC activation fault codes, including 1B2904 and 1F2102. Codes 021204 and 21B210 were also reported in some cases.

The improved patch addresses this issue.

Important: An ECU unlocked using the previous patch requires a new Bench unlock with the updated patch before further OBD flashing. An existing unlock must not be assumed to include the improvement.

What this means for vehicle owners

The update changes the procedure used to prepare supported BMW ECUs for OBD programming. Vehicle compatibility and the required access method must still be confirmed for each application.
