Petrol Injector Testing & Ultrasonic Cleaning

Know the Condition of Your Injectors

Petrol injectors are precision components. Each injector needs to deliver the correct quantity of fuel consistently and with an appropriate spray pattern.

Contamination, deposits, damaged filters, seal deterioration and mechanical wear can all affect injector performance.

TuningWorx provides professional petrol injector testing, ultrasonic cleaning and servicing, with measured before-and-after results.

Rather than simply cleaning a set of injectors and returning them, we test their condition before cleaning and verify the result afterwards.

Before and After Testing

Each injector set is tested before cleaning to establish its original condition.

Depending on the injector type, testing can include:

  • Injector flow
  • Dynamic operation
  • Spray pattern
  • Leakage
  • Electrical operation
  • Comparison between injectors
  • Visual condition

The injectors are then cleaned and serviced as appropriate before being tested again.

This allows us to establish whether cleaning has actually improved their performance rather than simply assuming that it has.

Your Injector Test ReportTuningWorx Injector Report 350px tight

A professional test report is produced for the injector set.

The report records the test results and provides a permanent record of the work carried out, including before and after measurements and photographs where applicable.

This makes it easy to see the condition of the injectors before servicing and the result afterwards.

Where flow has improved, the report clearly records the change.

The report can be emailed directly to the customer and retained with the vehicle's service history.

Spray Pattern Assessment

Injector performance isn't determined by flow quantity alone.

An injector can deliver an apparently acceptable quantity of fuel while producing a poor or uneven spray pattern.

We therefore visually assess spray behaviour during testing and can record before and after spray-pattern photographs as part of the report.

This is particularly useful when contamination has affected fuel atomisation.

Ultrasonic Cleaning and Flushing

Where appropriate, injectors are ultrasonically cleaned to help remove deposits and contamination.

Depending on the injector and service required, work can also include:

  • Ultrasonic cleaning
  • Forward flushing
  • Back flushing
  • Replacement filter baskets
  • Pintle caps
  • Top and bottom O-rings
  • Teflon seals
  • Spacers
  • Rubber head seals
  • Injector hose

Not every injector uses all of these components. Parts are replaced as appropriate for the injector being serviced.

GDI and Direct Injection

TuningWorx also works with suitable Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) injectors.

Direct-injection systems operate differently from conventional port injection and injector design varies considerably between manufacturers.

Testing and servicing therefore needs to be appropriate to the particular injector rather than treating every petrol injector in the same way.

BMW Piezo Injectors

We can test and service suitable BMW piezo petrol injectors, subject to injector type and condition.

These are considerably more complex than conventional port injectors and require appropriate testing rather than assuming that a running problem automatically means the injector needs replacing.

Contact us with the vehicle and injector details so that we can confirm the appropriate service.

Standard and Performance Injectors

Injector testing is useful for both standard and modified engines.

We work with injectors used in:

  • Standard petrol engines
  • Performance applications
  • Modified engines
  • Rover V8 engines
  • Classic vehicles
  • Turbocharged engines
  • Supercharged engines
  • Bespoke engine builds

For performance applications, knowing the actual condition and consistency of the injectors is particularly important before developing the engine calibration.

Injector Problems

Injector faults can contribute to symptoms including:

  • Rough idle
  • Misfires
  • Hesitation
  • Flat spots
  • Poor starting
  • Uneven cylinder performance
  • Loss of power
  • Increased fuel consumption
  • Incorrect mixture
  • Increased emissions

These symptoms don't prove that the injectors are defective.

Testing allows their actual performance to be established before expensive replacement parts are ordered.

Supporting Engine Calibration

Accurate fuel delivery is fundamental to successful engine calibration.

Injector performance needs to be considered alongside fuel pressure, engine specification and ECU calibration.

For modified engines using larger injectors, simply installing higher-flow components isn't sufficient. The ECU calibration needs to correctly account for the injectors being used.

Our injector testing, engine diagnostics, rolling road and ECU calibration facilities allow these areas to be considered together where required.

Test Before Replacing

Injectors can be expensive, particularly on modern direct-injection engines.

Replacing an entire set because an injector fault is suspected can therefore be a costly way of diagnosing a problem.

Testing provides evidence.

If the injectors are performing correctly, attention can move to the actual cause of the problem. If they aren't, we have measured information showing what is wrong and whether servicing has corrected it.

Injector Testing Enquiries

For injector testing, send us:

  • Vehicle make and model
  • Registration
  • Engine details
  • Injector part number where available
  • Number of injectors
  • Description of any running problem

Once testing is complete, you'll receive the results together with the TuningWorx injector test report.

Test. Clean. Re-test. Report.
